Established in 2010,
Damm Nice (Damien Ramirez) is the owner of Damm Nice Tattoos & Fine Art a tattoo & fine art parlor located at the YoHo Artists Residency on 540 Nepperhan Avenue in Yonkers, New York. In addition to inking original tattoos, Damm Nice is a well-known specialist in scar masking and tattoo cover-ups. Seventeen years of tattooing has earned him a global following that includes over 10,000 followers from across social media.
Damm Nice, at 10 years old, began drawing tattoos on his family and friends. His early influences were street artists, Keith Haring and other graffiti works of art, when in the 1980’s they could be seen throughout the subways and platforms, but especially in Heights of Manhattan and the Bronx. During his teenage years, Damien drew subjects depicting social issues, focusing on the human emotion and body.
In 1997, at age 17, he conducted his own self-styled residency/training program by shadowing tattoos artists and mastering the newest techniques they were producing at the time. During that same time he spent several months studying both technical and creative resource manuals including industry and trade magazines/websites regarding the aspects of tattooing.
Damm Nice strongly believes that we all have special bonds with our tattoos and he is committed to making sure that his clients feel their best for years to come with their body art.
Damm Nice is 100% compliant in the practice of Universal Precautions and maintains the highest levels of hygiene in his tattoo parlor.
PHILOSOPHY OF TATTOOING
Tattooing as a medium can range from techniques like photorealism to 3-dimensional graphic design. Virtually any kind of image can be transferred from paper to flesh. what differs is the level of mastery by the tattoo artist. It’s important to ask how many years an artist has been practicing—and to always ask to see their most recent work.
All professional tattoo artists should be able to render an image on the skin using the most common techniques, but in addition, skilled artists can specialize in certain techniques that can only be acquired from years of experience.
I approach every tattoo by first visualizing how the tattoo will appear on the skin, especially on those tricky parts of the body that can stretch or fold significantly enough to distort the image. This ability allows me to offer consultation on alternative regions of the body that may be better suited for that specific image.
I also specialize in tattoo cover-ups and scar masking. Scar masking is a technique that involves covering stretch marks, keloids and burns with the best-suited images and coloring. My personal favorite style is free hand black and gray tattoos.
The learning curve in tattooing is steep. Tattooing is an art but it’s also an acquired skill and it takes years and a significant financial investment to develop the technical mastery of inking an image onto the skin.
This is a skill that does not develop overnight, as such, this is why accomplished tattoo artists often have a heavily booked calendar with higher than average prices. It’s important to know that in the tattoo parlor, you get what you pay for.
ALWAYS remember: Cheap Tattoos Aren't Good and Good Tattoos Aren't Cheap.
ALL professional, well-established tattoo artists practice the highest levels of hygiene and practice Universal Precautions in an order to maintain their personal safety and the safety of all his/her clients. If you walk into a parlor that does not look clean, it’s often the case that you may be dealing with someone who does not practice the right level of hygiene to keep you safe.
